PCL wins top prize at 2017 CanBIM awards

TORONTO – The Canada BIM Council (CanBIM) recently revealed its 2017 award winners in Toronto with top honours presented to PCL Construction for the Rocky Ridge Recreation Facility in Calgary.

PCL took home both the General Contractor Award, sponsored by Brownlee LLP, and the Best In BIM Award, sponsored by Next Architecture.

"When designers for the Rocky Ridge Recreation Facility pushed the boundaries on design, it resulted in a stunning example of architecture," states a release issued by CanBIM.

"The challenge for PCL was to take this complex building form and physically build it. With the use of a fully integrated BIM model the team has realized success."

The International Award, sponsored by Turner Fleischer Architects, went to Groupe Canam for the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.

The Owners Award, sponsored by B+H Architects, was presented to York University for the York University New Student Centre; the Design & Engineering Award went to Provencher Roy, for the Tour de Montreal; the Technology Award, sponsored by IBI Group, went to Assemble Systems; and the Academic Award, sponsored by Global eTraining, went to Dr. Mohammed Delavar for BIM Assisted Design Process Automation for Pre-Engineered Buildings.

Special recognition was given to Ellen Bensky, partner and CEO of Turner Fleischer Architects, who earned this year’s Professional Achievement Award, which honours a CanBIM member who has made a significant and meaningful contribution to the advancement of BIM and virtual design and construction in Canada.
