The Council of Ontario Construction Associations (COCA) has appointed Ian Cunningham as its new president. He takes office August 25, 2008.
A former senior executive at the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Cunningham has almost 20 years of experience in association circles. His areas of expertise include strategic planning, policy development and government relations.
“I knew COCA well from my days at the Ontario chamber,” said Cunningham, who joined that organization in 1995 as director of policy and rose through the ranks to become interim executive director and senior vice-president.
“Many of the challenges I experienced at the chamber are similar to those faced by COCA.”
Cunningham replaces former COCA president David Frame, who resigned in early April.
COCA chair Jim Coates said he was impressed by Cunningham’s leadership skills and background in association management. Cunningham most recently was executive director of the Mississauga Crime Prevention Association.
“Ian is very well spoken,” Coates said. “He has a lot of presence. He impressed me from our very first meeting.”
