The Ontario Road Builders’ Association (ORBA) has presented its 2012 director of the year award to Scott Taylor, president of McLean Taylor Construction Ltd. of St. Marys. The award recognizes a director who goes above and beyond his or her responsibilities.

Retiring president Jim Hurst said Taylor has contributed “enormous amounts of time” over the past several years representing the industry as chair of ORBA’s contracts and documents committee, chair of the Corporate Financial Assurance Audit Service Team (CFAAST) committee and as a member of the CFAAST implementation committee.

The audit involved an independent review of the Ministry of Transportation’s infractions and claims processes with respect to fairness, equity, transparency and conflict of interest. A progress report has been submitted to the transportation ministry.

The award was presented at the president’s dinner during the association’s recent 86th annual convention in Toronto.

Also at the event, the association handed out its distinguished service award to past director Ashton Martin, vice-president of Fermar Paving Ltd. of Toronto.

ORBA executive director Geoff Wilkinson said Martin is a “very committed and highly knowledgeable” volunteer.

“Once his term as director was up, he (Martin) did not sail away into the sunset,” Wilkinson said. “Ashton continued his involvement with ORBA as the chair of the hot mix committee, as an ORBA representative on the Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS) pavement management committee and as an ORBA representative on the CFAAST implementation committee.”
