HAMILTON, ONT. — The Hamilton-Halton Construction Association’s (HHCA) Women in Construction Group recently hosted their first official fundraiser to raise money for the HHCA Legacy Build 2020 — the sponsorship of a home build with Habitat for Humanity Hamilton in celebration of the association’s 100th anniversary in 2020.
The Lagers for Legacy event was held at Shawn & Ed Brewing Co. in Dundas, Ontario in late October.
"We launched our first appeal to the HHCA membership in the late spring and the response has been truly amazing," said HHCA general manager Sue Ramsay in a statement.
"We’re still a long way out from the Build but momentum is definitely building. With more than $40,000 in donations committed to date, we’re confident we can raise the $200,000 necessary."
The networking event attracted more than 100 attendees including representatives from the Hamilton Port Authority, the City of Hamilton and CityHousing Hamilton.
Habitat Hamilton was also on-hand, with a large number of board members and executive director Sean Ferris in attendance.
"The local construction community has always been good to Habitat," said Ferris. "Events like Lagers for Legacy don’t just raise money, they raise awareness."
As a registered charity, Habitat for Humanity Hamilton is able to issue tax receipts for all donations, monetary, material or skilled labour, a release issued by the HHCA indicates.
