PEO names David Brown new president at AGM

TORONTO — Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) recently named David Brown as its 99th president during its annual general meeting (AGM).

The licensing and regulating body for professional engineers and engineering in the province, held it’s AGM in Toronto late last month.

According to a release, Brown has a long history of volunteer leadership within PEO and the engineering community. He has served as PEO vice-president and eastern region councillor and is a past member of PEO’s human resources, finance and Elliot Lake advisory committees and the continuing professional development, competency and quality assurance task force.

He also represents PEO on the boards of Engineers Canada and the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.

He is both a senior managing partner and practising structural engineer with TaskForce Engineering Inc. in Belleville, Ont.

PEO also introduced its council for the 2018-2019 term at the AGM. The 10 women and 16 men on the new council will govern PEO’s 87,500 licence and certificate holders.

The new leadership group includes province-wide representation from the business community, industry, academe and government.

The composition and operation of the council is dictated by Regulation 941 under the Professional Engineers Act. Most councillors are elected by PEO’s licence holders. Currently, eight councillors are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, three of whom are not professional engineers.
