Brian Endacott named chair of the TCA

As the new chair of the Toronto Construction Association (TCA), Brian Endacott brings a wealth of experience in the industry and the association to the role.

Endacott, construction manager, Toronto buildings, EllisDon Corporation, was named the 2020 chairman of the board of directors at the TCA’s 152nd Annual General Meeting and Best of the Best Awards held Feb. 20 at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. Endacott has been a member of TCA for more than 20 years and has 40 years of experience in the industry.

“I’m very grateful for being on the board and being able to work with industry veterans and new people coming on board and I am looking forward to working with John and the excellent TCA team in the coming year,” Endacott told the crowd gathered for the AGM and Best of the Best Awards, acknowledging TCA president and CEO John Mollenhauer.

Endacott has sat on the entertainment committee for 14 years and has been chair of that committee for 12 years.

“When you are chairman you are also a member of the board of directors so I got to see what the association is doing and where it’s going,” explained Endacott. “Recently I saw a need to step up and fill some vacancies. With turnovers, people retiring, people changing careers there was a bit of a hole.”

He sees a need for inclusivity and diversity in both the organization itself and the construction industry as a whole.

“What we are seeing is we have great, knowledgeable people in our industry, but most are probably contemplating retirement,” said Endacott. “We need to engage the next generation into entering into what are exciting and challenging careers and from all walks of life… We all know the industry as a whole has a labour shortage and it’s not just about the guys laying the bricks and mortar it’s about the individuals managing the projects as well.”

He added, “One of my roles as chairman of a committee and even as chairman of the board now is to engage people from my own company and other companies to say, ‘hey listen, we’re looking for individuals, would you like to find out more about the industry, besides what you do as your job, because it allows for networking and connections with people throughout the Toronto marketplace but also across Canada.”

For Endacott, networking is also a priority. As chair of the entertainment committee, he and his team organize the ski day, golf day and the Christmas lunch every year.

“That’s what first got me involved because the people that I met when I first started participating in the TCA, just going to events and then onto a committee, it was just because of that camaraderie that was created with the individuals that I was working with at the time and that has continued to this day,” said Endacott. “That’s what the association helps us with is to network with people of like minds and like issues to solve the issues of the day.”

John Mollenhauer said he is looking forward to working with Endacott and that he brings passion and enthusiasm to the role.

“Rest assured the board is in excellent hands with Brian as the chair,” said Mollenhauer. “He was really exceptional in his leadership of the entertainment committee and I am looking forward to working with him in his tenure as chair.”

Endacott will replace Albert Salvatore, of Sprint Mechanical, who served as chair for the last two terms.

“I would like to thank all the board members for their tremendous support. As the chair my job was made really easy,” Salvatore said. “It has been an honour serving as your chair in 2017 and 2018.”

Mollenhauer also thanked Salvatore for his service.

“I want to acknowledge what an extraordinary job Albert has done for all of us,” said Mollenhauer. “Serving as a chair is a huge undertaking. We had the good fortune at TCA of having Albert serve for two years and we are enormously grateful, Albert, for you making time.”

“These folks give a lot of time and effort to TCA and their leadership is enormously appreciated,” added Mollenhauer. “Now we get a little bit of a different perspective — Albert comes from a trade contractors’ perspective, Brian brings a general contractors’ perspective.”
