SCHAUMBURG, ILL. — The Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) is appealing to President Joe Biden to reconsider his executive order to revoke the Keystone XL project’s pipeline permit.
Biden signed the order just hours after his inauguration on Jan. 20. AED president and CEO Brian McGuire said the association is “deeply disappointed by the Biden administration’s move to quash this important energy infrastructure project.”
AED has supported the project for the past decade through the permit’s original rejection by the Barack Obama administration and subsequent approval from the Donald Trump administration in 2017, a release said.
“Completion of the Keystone XL pipeline would create thousands of jobs and significant economic activity with minimal environmental impact. It was studied extensively, including by the U.S. State Department, and each determination was that it was a safe and reliable means to transportation energy,” he said.
“AED strongly urges President Biden to reconsider his executive order and permit the completion of the Keystone XL pipeline.”
An AED release said the association will continue to work with the U.S. Congress and industry and labour allies to reassess the executive order, adding “completion of the Keystone XL pipeline is in the national interest of both the United States and Canada and is a safe and efficient means to transport oil and further reduce North America’s reliance on energy sources from volatile regions.”
