CLAC kicks off Construction 101 Bootcamp

CAMBRIDGE, ONT. — The Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) is launching Construction 101 Bootcamp, a three-week training program with an eight-week job placement that provides participants with the skills and safety training they need to get hired as construction workers.

The program is open to anyone looking to start a career in the trades who has limited or no experience.

During the training program, participants will have four days of online training and 10 days of in-class and hands-on training. The in-class dates are April 25 to May 6 at the CLAC Cambridge Member Centre, located at 45 Commerce Ct. in Cambridge, Ont.

Some of the topics covered will include construction health and safety foundations; construction tools and equipment; how to safely use hand tools and power tools; jobsite communication skills and conflict management; construction-oriented math skills; measuring and layout skills; and how to recognize and mitigate workplace hazards.

Participants will also earn mandatory safety certificates, including Working at Heights, Elevating Work Platforms and WHMIS.

Additional program supports include employability skills and upgrading; financial assistance toward child care, accommodation and transportation; and wraparound career-based support throughout training and work placement.

All candidates must complete an aptitude assessment and interview prior to being accepted into the program.
