OTTAWA — Canadian Roofing Contractors Association (CRCA) executive director Jim Facette addressed workforce shortages during a recent appearance in front of a House of Commons Standing Committee examining federal housing expenditures.
Facette was invited to speak to committee members on the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities on June 6, stated a release.
The committee is examining the potential impact of federal spending on purpose-built rental, affordable, social, rent-geared-to-income and co-op housing between Feb. 1, 200, and Oct. 1, 2015, on the current state of housing affordability and related challenges such as homelessness and tent cities in Canada.
Facette stated, “While government investment into housing has a positive impact for many, there is a related challenge of an acute need for people to work in all facets of construction businesses including the roofing and building envelope sector.”
He added, “CRCA members want to see governments and industry work together to build communities Canadians want to live and thrive in.”
