PCA launches ‘Let’s Get Building’ campaign, urging energy projects get built now

OTTAWA — As the federal election campaign gets fully underway leading up to the April 28 vote, so too is one from the Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA) that is urging government, industry and Canadians to get energy infrastructure projects built now.

The Let’s Get Building campaign outlines several reasons why these projects need to get off the ground and also has an area where those interested can sign a petition to “show your support for a stronger, more prosperous Canada,” the association states.

PCA says building major energy projects, infrastructure and utility corridors can recharge Canada’s economy, create jobs, increase production and trades, and enhance security.

“From pipelines and LNG to petrochemical facilities, renewable energy and mining expansion, fast-tracking major resource projects will attract investment, strengthen communities, and diversify trade partners,” the website reads.

It also states projects have to get to “yes” as Canada “cannot afford further delays or cancellations of vital projects. With global competition intensifying and U.S. tariffs threatening our industries, we must move forward with confidence — learning from past setbacks like Energy East and Northern Gateway.”

What’s more, PCA would like to see an overhaul of the regulatory process from “slow and unpredictable.”

“We need a faster, clearer, and more objective process to greenlight projects in the national interest — just as other countries do.”

Lastly, the campaign says projects should ensure there is opportunity for all.

“Nation-building projects should be built by the best teams — without exclusion,” the website reads. “We stand for policies that ensure all qualified contractors and skilled workers can contribute to building Canada’s future.”
