The Roof Consultants Institute is now the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC).

The official rebranding occurred earlier in the year but the Southern Ontario Chapter formally confirmed the rebranding to its membership at a Christmas luncheon in December in Vaughan, Ont.

IIBEC, formerly known as RCI which was originally incorporated in 1983 and headquartered in North Carolina, is an international non-profit association of professionals who specialize in roofing waterproofing exterior wall specification and design for commercial buildings.

“They do a lot of other things so their focus was to target others not just roofing,” said Lora Ferrazzo-Bourck, executive management, Artistic Skylight Domes and IIBEC Southern Ontario Chapter board member.

“Now we are classified as an institute. What we do is we offer classes and seminars for people to obtain their continuing education hours.”

The IIBEC currently has more than 3,600 members around the world including all U.S. states, Canada, Australia, the West Indes, Europe and Asia. Members range from roofing contractors, roofing consultants, engineers, architects, suppliers and general contractors.

“We work a lot with consultants, engineers, architects but all in the building enclosure and building envelope sector and mainly with roofing waterproofing and design,” explained Ferrazzo-Bourck.

IIBEC offers enrichment opportunities such as advocacy, national chapters, committees, education, emerging professionals, publishing and teaching opportunities, professional registration programs and education in person or online.

IIBEC has developed a number of professional registration programs to establish a standard of qualifications and practice in the industry including registered roof consultant; registered roof observers; registered waterproofing consultant; registered exterior wall consultant; registered exterior wall observer; and registered building enclosure consultant.

IIBEC also hosts an annual forum and events for professionals which provide an opportunity to explore current products, technologies, exchange ideas, solutions, insights, information, states the association’s website.
