Highway 40 to shut down Friday to install REM gantry 

The Reseau express metropolitain (REM) project office in Montreal has announced highway closures over the next month to permit the installation of a gantry for the future REM elevated structure. The gantry will be installed on either side of Highway 40. This structure is to be installed using a launch beam in 2021. 

The first highway closure is Friday, Sept. 18. 

The REM is a new, 67-kilometre integrated public transit network that will feature 26 stations and link downtown Montreal, the South Shore, the West Island, the North Shore and Montreal-Trudeau airport through an automated electric light rail system. 

 

Samm to break ground on hotel project near Pearson airport 

Samm Developments has announced it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its Regal Plaza Hotel and Corporate Centre project on Dixon Road at Highway 401 in Toronto on Sept. 22. Regal Plaza will be an 11-storey, 200,000-square-foot mixed-use building offering ground-level retail, office condos and a new 204-room Holiday Inn Staybridge hotel with a banquet hall. Regal Plaza will be connected to the existing Holiday Inn on the north.  

 

Osgoode announces next five modules 

Osgoode Professional Development has announced details of the next five modules of its Development Practical Construction Law Certificateprogram. 

The modules will be held Oct. 16, 23 and 30 and Nov. 6 and 13 and will include such topics as  

navigating bidding and tendering issues and managing recurrent claims. 

 

RICS hosts Americas webinar 

RICS has announced that its next Americas Update webinar on construction and infrastructure will be held Sept. 29. Among panel topics, RICS fellows Simon Rubinsohn and Mark Fergus will discuss the impact that government stimulus programs have had on the sector and what can be expected over the next few months. 

 

ORACCA plans Empowering Women event 

The Ontario Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractors Association has announced it will host its Women Empowering Women in HVACR virtual convention Oct. 21 and 22. The event’s platinum sponsor is MCA Canada’s Women in Mechanical Construction group.
