Feds, Ontario support cobalt refinery

Fuse Cobalt Inc. announced this morning that on Dec. 222020, the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario announced a joint $10-million investment in the First Cobalt Corp. refinery in Cobalt, OntThe refinery is located 1,500 metres west of Fuse Cobalt’s mineral exploration property and inside the historic silver-cobalt producing region of Ontario. The government allocations will help accelerate the commissioning and expansion of the hydrometallurgical cobalt refinery. 

 

WeirFoulds reviews construction law decision

Lexology today posted a commentary from WeirFoulds LLP on a December Supreme Court of Canada decision in the Callow case. The decision will impact contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders of the construction industry. In the decision, the Supreme Court clarified the duty of honest performance in contractual obligations and what may be considered a breach of this duty. 

 

RAIC co-hosts accessibility webinar Jan. 21

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the U.S. Embassy are holding a webinar tomorrow to discuss accessibility challenges in architecture.  The format is a one-hour discussion on the “similarities, differences, challenges and opportunities that the two national accessibility acts pose for architects and those they are designing for. The webinar starts at 1 p.m. EST. 

 

Ontario extends workplace extension blitzes

The Ontario government today announced it is expanding the current COVID-19 workplace inspection campaign at workplaces in the province. Following last week’s big-box store blitz, provincial offences officers will be now be visiting retail establishments, including big-box stores; restaurants providing take-out meals; essential service-sector establishments such as gas stations; and farming operations. 

 

Trillium Gold appoints new VP 

Trillium Gold Mines has announced the appointment of Donna Yoshimatsu as vice-president, corporate development and investor relations. Yoshimatsu’s 25-year career in the mining sector has included senior positions with the original Franco-Nevada, SNC-Lavalin and North American Palladium.The company recently extended its holdings in the Confederation Lake and Birch-Uchi greenstone belts in Ontario’s Red Lake district, as well as in prospective properties in Larder Lake, Ontario and the Matagami and Chibougamou areas of Quebec.
