CMHC supports upgrades of London affordable housing
The federal government through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation announced today that the City of London, Ont. will be receiving $40 million in funding, $15.5 million of which is forgivable, for the repair and reinvestment of 2,082 community housing units in London. The units, all within the London and Middlesex Community Housing portfolio, are for priority vulnerable groups. The funding is being delivered through the CMHC’s National Housing Co-Investment Fund.
Ontario Budget Day is March 24
The Ontario government this morning announced that Minister of Finance Peter Bethlenfalvy will deliver the 2021 Ontario Budget on March 24.
StatsCan issues one-year pandemic report
Statistics Canada today published a report on the first year of the pandemic, titled COVID-19 in Canada: A One-year Update on Social and Economic Impacts. Sections include Canadians continue to respond to COVID-19; Indirect health impacts of COVID-19; Uneven social and economic impacts of COVID-19; and Economic impacts: Assessing the recovery.
O’Regan to speak on critical minerals
Today Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O’Regan will make an announcement on Canadian Critical Minerals. He will be joined by Felix Lee, president of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, Pierre Gratton, president and CEO of the Mining Association of Canada and Dawn Madahbee Leach, general manager of the Waubetek Business Development Corporation. Watch for the announcement at 12:30 p.m. EST.
SYNLawn Toronto project earns award
SYNLawn Toronto today announced it has received recognition for its installation of The Green Mini Golf course at the Erin Mills Mall in Mississauga from SYNLawn, a manufacturer of artificial turf. John Larsen, distributor at SYNLawn Toronto, received the Specialty Project of the Year Award. The 5,000-square-foot course was designed in a circular indoor space and was also required to be modular so that it could be temporarily removed when needed.
AGC to release pandemic report one year in
This afternoon the U.S.-based Associated General Contractors of America will release new data showing the impacts of the coronavirus on the construction sector one year into the pandemic. The new data is based on a survey of construction firms and includes details on how the coronavirus is impacting demand for construction, the cost and availability of key construction materials, hiring plans and jobsite safety. The report will be released at 2 p.m. EST.
