COVID stream funding supports Ottawa projects
The governments of Canada and Ontario today announced spending of $3.8 million to improve municipal and community infrastructure in Ottawa, with 80 per cent of the funding coming through the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure plan. Among the projects funded is the expansion of the Beacon Hill North Community Centre with the addition of a new multipurpose room, a kitchen, universal washrooms and new windows.
National employment rises slightly in June
Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey for June was released this morning and revealed that employment rose by 231,000 (up 1.2 per cent) in June, following a cumulative decline of 275,000 over the previous two months. Employment growth was entirely in part-time work and concentrated among youth aged 15 to 24. After falling by 143,000 over the previous two months, full-time work was little changed.
100th Spiritleaf cannabis store open for business
Inner Spirit Holdings Ltd. today announced the opening of its 100th Spiritleaf cannabis retail store. The company marked the milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Spiritleaf South Keys store located in Ottawa with company president and CEO Darren Bondar in attendance.
Cadillac Fairview repurposed parking lot for dining
Cadillac Fairview will launch a new outdoor dining space, The Lot at CF Sherway Gardens, in Toronto today. The 30,000-square-foot patio will be situated on the west parking lot of the mall, outside the Gate 1 and 2 entrances.
