TORONTO – The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) recently announced $136 million in funding for a new energy efficiency program so Ontario’s businesses and organizations can maximize their energy-saving potential with new retrofit incentives.
The business conservation program will support up to 50 per cent of the cost of custom energy-efficiency projects.
The custom stream allows businesses to install energy-saving equipment that best meets their specific needs and receive an incentive based on overall energy savings rather than choosing from a prescriptive list of equipment with preset incentives.
The IESO has also launched two other enhancements to the retrofit program that are designed to support grid reliability as Ontario’s economy continues to drive increasing demand for electricity:
A new program, Retrofit for Greenhouses, offers incentives for commonly used lighting, controls and other equipment used by the sector.
Double incentives for retrofit projects, with the exception of lighting, in parts of Niagara, Kingston, South Huron Perth, Pembroke and Kenora, areas of the province where the transmission grid is congested.
These are available between April 3 and Oct. 3, with additional target areas to be announced this summer.
