MISSISSAUGA, ONT.
The City of Mississauga has recently completed a thorough growth study, prepared by Hemson Consulting Ltd., as the suburb located west of Toronto, approaches its one millionth resident.
“This is one of the most significant reports that go to council,” says John Calvert, director of policy planning. “The City of Mississauga is quickly moving towards a city of one million people. This report will be used not only by the city as the basis for all city master plan development, planning and infrastructure decisions but by the Region of Peel as well.”
The report provides information surrounding the city’s long-term population projections and forecasts for housing and employment.
The city’s current population sits at 741,000, making it Canada’s sixth largest city, but the report suggest that number will increase to 829,000 by 2031 and 878,000 by 2041. Total employment is expected to reach 527,000 by 20131 and 552,000 by 2041, with large portion of future jobs to be located in large office buildings.
The report, titled Mississauga Growth Forecasts 2011-2041, will assist management teams as they prepare capital budgets and forecasts, conduct transportation studies and plan for future city services.
