TORONTO — A new power generating facility will be built at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) Wallaceburg campus, thanks to funding from the Ontario Government.
Once completed, the new facility will replace aging infrastructure with new boilers, generators and electrical distribution equipment, states a release.
The expansion is part of the province’s plan to enhance hospital services in Chatham-Kent, which also includes support to replace the heating and cooling distribution systems through the Hospital Energy Efficiency Program (HEEP), adds the release. CKHA is receiving $1.5 million for the Wallaceburg site.
The program helps hospitals save energy and encourages the use of more renewable energy technologies.
Last year, Ontario invested $64 million in carbon market proceeds through HEEP to fund 180 projects at 98 hospitals across the province, the release indicates.
