DARTMOUTH, N.S. — The Government of Canada and Halifax Regional Municipality will be investing up to $5.6 million in joint federal-municipal funding for projects to improve Halifax Transit infrastructure and service.
The federal government is providing over $2.1 million through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund with the Halifax Regional Municipality providing the remainder of funding.
According to a release issued by Infrastructure Canada, projects include improvements to the Halifax and Alderney Landing Ferry Terminal pontoons and the purchase of eight conventional buses. Pontoon improvements include replacing fenders, maintaining weather-tight seals and repainting key areas, ensuring the continued function and safety of pontoons and allowing passengers to transfer between the ferry and terminal safely.
Both projects will improve the Halifax Transit passenger experience and increase operational efficiency for a more sustainable transit system.
