Port Lands, Etobicoke precinct get net-zero study funds

TORONTO — The federal government has announced funding for engineering design studies to support building net-zero energy communities in the Port Lands and the Etobicoke Civic Centre Precinct in Toronto.

Funding for the studies amounting to $375,000 will come from Natural Resources Canada through its Energy Innovation Program, which supports initiatives to accelerate clean technology development, according to an April 24 release.

“These studies will provide the necessary information for the City of Toronto to plan and develop new communities, helping them maximize their energy efficiency and reduce their environmental footprint.

“Through energy-efficient practices and the use of alternative renewable technologies, net-zero buildings will play a key role in transitioning to a low-carbon future,” commented Adam Vaughan, parliamentary secretary to the minister of families, children and social development, in the statement.
