MONTREAL — The federal government has announced the reappointment of Paul T. Kefalas as chairman of the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) board of directors for a period of one year.
JCCBI is a Crown Corporation that owns and operates five federal transportation corridors in the Montreal area: the Jacques Cartier Bridge, the Melocheville Tunnel, the federal parts of the Honore Mercier Bridge and the Bonaventure Expressway, and the Champlain Bridge, recently taken out of service, and the Estacade.
Kefalas has been chairman of the JCCBI board since 2008, stated a July 12 release. He previously worked in engineering at Bell Canada, General Electric and Asea Brown Boveri Inc., gaining experience in power technology and infrastructure projects.
While the new Samuel de Champlain Bridge was being constructed by the Signature on the Saint Lawrence Group, the JCCBI oversaw the reinforcement of the old Champlain Bridge, and it also was responsible for major works to reinforce and stabilize the approaches of the Jacques Cartier Bridge.
With the Samuel de Champlain Bridge now in operation, the JCCBI will now oversee the deconstruction of the old Champlain Bridge. The project will begin in 2020 and is expected to take three years to complete.
