McNaughton adds training, skills development to duties

TORONTO — Ontario Premier Doug Ford has announced changes to the responsibilities of three ministers with a realignment of the former Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and the Ministry of Labour.

Under the changes, announced Oct. 21, Monte McNaughton adds training and skills development to his portfolio to become minister of labour, training and skills development.

Ross Romano relinquishes the skills training file and becomes minister of colleges and universities.

Lisa MacLeod is now the minister of heritage, sport, tourism and culture industries.

McNaughton was named minister of labour in June.

I hope that there will be a plan to introduce an organizing/governance body to promote and monitor apprenticeships, curriculum and the Canada-wide Red Seal for trades workers. We had an organization known as the Ontario College of Trades that was closed by Doug Ford December 2018 and never replaced, we await the day.
