Ontario unveils shortlists for Eglinton, Scarborough extensions

TORONTO — The Ontario government has shortlisted two sets of three teams to undertake tunnelling work on the Scarborough Subway Extension and the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension projects.

Teams were shortlisted based on criteria contained in the request for qualifications process that began in March 2020. Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney unveiled the lists Aug. 5.

The three teams shortlisted for the Scarborough project are:

The eight-kilometre Scarborough extension will extend the Toronto Transit Commission’s Bloor-Danforth Line 2 from the existing Kennedy Station to McCowan Road/Sheppard Avenue. The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will extend the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit project, currently under construction, by 9.2 kilometres from Mount Dennis Station to Renforth Drive.

“When our government was elected, we immediately reached out to listen to the market to ensure there was capacity and competition to bid on priority projects,” said Mulroney in a statement. “The market has responded in an overwhelmingly positive manner and this shortlist is made up of a strong mix of Canadian and international bidders.”

These teams will be invited to respond to a request for proposals for submissions that indicate how they will deliver the project. Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx expect to award the tunnelling contracts in mid-2021.
