TORONTO – The lessons learned in the construction industry in 2020 were and continue to be abundant.
Adapting on the fly to the COVID-19 pandemic only proved that the sector, often pegged as slow to innovate, can do so quickly in order to make jobsites safer, more efficient and able to weather this unpredictable storm.
But 2020 wasn’t just about lessons learned in the wake of COVID-19, it was much more than that. The industry also saw its share of other challenges, such as the emergence of racially motivated hate crimes on construction sites, bringing to the forefront an issue that has been in the dark for far too long.
The year also saw long-standing debates continue, such as the merit behind Community Benefits Agreements, an issue that is percolating across the country but has reached a boiling point in B.C. in particular.
All of these issues and more are greatly impacting the industry as we reach the end of 2020 and move into 2021.
