TORONTO — The 2020 list of appointees to the Order of Ontario included former premiers Mike Harris and Ernie Eves as well as several prominent citizens from the development and project sector.

The 25 appointees were named by Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell on Jan. 1

The appointees included:

Michael DeGasperis — Vaughan

The CEO of TACC Construction was cited for his roles as a philanthropist, business and community leader with 25 years in the homebuilding and development sector.

“A visionary for improved access to health care, his leadership has raised millions of dollars for numerous health institutions across the province. From his concept, to brokering approvals and land purchase on behalf of the City of Vaughan, Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is in final stages of construction,” the citation stated.

Carlo Fidani — Toronto

Fidani, the chairman of the Orlando Corporation, is said in the citation to believe in the “transformative power of philanthropy.” Fidani contributes to health-related causes, “making landmark and often anonymous donations that have had significant impact on the province’s leading science and medical facilities,” stated the citation. Orlando is a Mississauga-based real estate company with interests in construction and development, property leasing and management.

Jing Jiang — London

An expert on instrumentation and control systems for nuclear power plants, Jiang’s research work has contributed to nuclear industries in Ontario and internationally.

“As a research chair professor at Western University, he has also trained the next generation of Ontario’s leaders in safe utilization of nuclear energy for power generation,” noted the citation.
