Dump truck driver charged after double fatality in Markham

NEWMARKET, ONT. — A 46-year-old male dump truck driver from Vaughan has been charged following a collision that claimed two lives in Markham, Ont.

Investigators with the York Regional Police (YRP) Major Collision Investigation Unit laid the charges Oct. 27.  

Anthony Baglieri has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

On Wednesday, Oct. 12, at about 2 p.m., YRP responded to reports of a collision in the area of Markham Road and Elson Street after a dump truck with a trailer collided with an Acura with three occupants.

A 21-year-old male, the driver of the Acura, and a 23-year-old female who was a rear passenger, were pronounced deceased at the scene. A third front passenger, a 52-year-old female, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she remains in critical condition, states a release.

The dump truck driver remained at the scene with no injuries. He will appear in court on Nov. 29 at 9:30 a.m.
