NEW YORK CITY – As the construction community across North America prepares to mark 9/11 with a moment of remembrance, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York City asks mourners to commemorate the anniversary of the day that changed the world forever by joining together to Remember the Sky.
Simply post a photo of the sky wherever in the world you are on Sept. 11, 2024 — regardless of the weather.
Then, share it on Instagram or the social media platform of your choice with a caption, tag the museum, and include the hashtags #neverforget911 and #rememberthesky.
The digital commemoration is inspired by the clear blue sky that was present in New York City and across the country on 9/11, as well as by Spencer Finch’s monumental art installation in the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
His artwork, “Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning,” is comprised of 2,983 watercolours, each a unique shade of blue.
Brian Turmail, vice-president of public affairs with the Associated General Contractors of America, stated, “We all take a second to pause and remember those who lost their lives on 9/11 (including construction workers) and remember the heroic reconstruction efforts that our members were involved in.”
A special Construction Record podcast examines how 9/11 changed construction. Listen here.
