WELSFORD, N.B.
A grading and paving contract valued at more than $11.3 million has been awarded to St. Isidore Asphalte ltée for the 10.7 km Welsford-Nerepis bypass along Route 7 in New Brunswick.
Construction of the Welsford-Nerepis bypass began in early 2009 with site preparation work. A total of seven separate contracts, valued collectively at $24.6 million, were awarded for grading, viaduct and clearing activities.
Jointly funded by the federal and provincial governments, the Welsford-Nerepis bypass is intended to improve safety and capacity. It is the only section of Route 7 that has not been extensively upgraded or bypassed by a new highway alignment. The project is scheduled for completion in 2012.
