TORONTO—Work on Toronto’s Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) project reached another milestone recently as dignitaries gathered to mark the start of construction on the first of 25 stations supporting the line.
Premier Kathleen Wynne attended the March 10 ground-breaking ceremony for the new Keelesdale Station.
The province has invested $5.3 billion toward the cost of the project, which is expected to be complete in 2021.
A media statement indicates the LRT line is expected to transport 5,500 riders per hour during peak travel times with a daily ridership of roughly 162,000 passengers and 50 million annually. It’s expected that at the peak of construction 2,500 workers will be working on the project.
The 25 stations will be built between Weston Road and Kennedy Station along Eglinton Avenue and will link 54 bus routes, three interchange subway stations and GO Transit.
