Kenora gets infrastructure funding to boost tourism

KENORA, ONT. — The Ontario Government is providing funding for infrastructure to increase tourism in Kenora, Ont. through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.

Funding includes $1 million for the construction of the new Lake of the Woods Art Centre.

The centre will house 65 pieces of art by Canadian artist Walter J. Phillips in addition to art from other local and Indigenous artists, states a release issued by the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines. The project will create two full-time jobs.

The government also announced $33,333 for the City of Kenora to undertake planning and design work for the redevelopment of Kenora’s harbourfront with a focus on future business and tourism activities.

“Kenora has a progressive vision for our community that embraces our natural beauty and creates a natural attraction for visitors,” said Dave Canfield, mayor of Kenora, in a statement.

“Through strong community partnerships, we continue to grow and investments like this will assist us in making Kenora the premier destination in the northwest.”
