New pedestrian bridges installed at Milliken GO Station

New pedestrian bridges installed at Milliken GO Station
METROLINX — After rigging the bridge to the crane and performing various safety checks, the new pedestrian bridge at Milliken Station in Toronto is lifted up to the rail bridge for installation.

TORONTO — Two new pedestrian bridges were recently lifted and set in place at Milliken GO Station in Toronto.

The bridges, which each span over 50 metres in length, cross over the new Steeles Avenue East underpass and will provide pedestrians and cyclists another route for getting safely to the station.

Steeles Avenue East was closed to traffic in order ensure the two new pedestrian bridges were safely installed. The work took extensive planning and preparation and took place overnight.

Metrolinx’s contractor used a large crane to hoist the two structures into place, indicates a Metrolinx blog, adding crews will now continue with concrete, glazing and roofing work on both bridges.

By separating the road from the rails, vehicles can travel under the railway, without having to stop and wait for trains.

Milliken GO Station is right next to the new underpass and upgrades are happening there as well including new track platforms, pedestrian tunnels, elevators, weather canopies and lighting.
