North, south Mississauga watermain breaks repaired over weekend

MISSISSAUGA — Crews for the Region of Peel spent much of the recent weekend repairing watermains in two different sections of the city of Mississauga with work completed and roads reopened by Sunday afternoon.

The first break was reported on Lakeshore Road West between Lorne Park Road and Ibar Way the afternoon of Jan. 5. Heavy flooding was reported and sinkholes formed.

It was determined the break was caused by a contractor digging on Lakeshore Road who hit a watermain. There was a hole in the road 15 metres by 15 metres by 2.5 metres deep.

By noon on Jan. 6 the watermain was being repaired. Water to approximately 70 homes was affected when the watermain was shut off.

No injuries were reported. A Peel spokesperson reported the repair was completed by Saturday afternoon.

The morning of Jan. 6, a second large watermain break was reported on McLaughlin Road at Fletcher’s Creek bridge near Courtneypark Drive in northern Mississauga. McLaughlin was closed between Rothschild Trail and Courtneypark Drive. Crews were on the scene quickly and the road was closed.

Repairs on the watermain break were completed Sunday afternoon.
