MONTREAL — CDPQ Infra has announced that the final pre-commissioning stage of the REM project in Montreal, the dry run, will begin between the stations of Brossard and Gare Centrale station on June 28.
The REM is a new 67-kilometre, 26-station automated, electric light transit network that will link downtown Montreal, the South Shore, the West Island, the North Shore and Montreal-Trudeau airport. Offering high-frequency service, the REM will operate 20 hours a day and will be connected to Montreal’s existing three metro lines.
The final pre-commissioning phase consists of simulating the future service, without passengers. Over the next days, REM cars will run at frequencies similar to those of the future service.
To reach this stage, the contractors have completed the entire electrification of the 16.6-kilometre South Shore network, the crossing of the Samuel de Champlain Bridge and a third winter of cold-weather testing.
Once testing is complete CDPQ Infra will confirm the official commissioning date for the REM between Brossard and Gare Centrale station.
