TORONTO — The City of Toronto has announced it will start a five-month construction project on Broadview Avenue between Gerrard Street East and Danforth Avenue to replace TTC streetcar tracks.
The $6.5-million project launched July 4 in co-ordination with the TTC and bundles multiple projects into one, states a release. Construction will be permitted 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The city is replacing the TTC tracks to reduce track noise and bring them into a state of good repair. The city is also resurfacing the road and repairing damaged sidewalks and curbs on Broadview Avenue and Montcrest Boulevard.
Additionally, work is taking place in the area to extend the life of sewers. The sewer work will be done in phases and completed by early 2024.
“This is another example of the major infrastructure work we are doing as quickly as possible to minimize disruption and as fiscally responsible as possible to maximize the city’s investments in multiple projects. There will be long-term gain for everyone who uses Broadview Avenue, including TTC passengers, when this construction is over,” stated Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie in a statement.
