Trade Corridors funding supports Inuit airline

OTTAWA — The federal government has announced $11 million in funding towards construction of a new cargo facility for Inuit-owned airline Canadian North at Ottawa International Airport.

Canadian North will also be investing $11 million. The new warehouse will double the capacity of Canadian North at the airport and will help the firm reduce delays in cargo handling, stated a release.

The project will include an expansion of the truck-loading area and also of refrigeration facilities. In addition, the project includes a backup power system to ensure service continuity during severe weather events.

The federal allocation comes through the federal National Trade Corridors Fund.

“Growing demand from Canada’s remote and northern communities highlights the essential role of cargo in supporting the Inuit communities and ensuring food security,” stated Michael Rodyniuk, CEO of Canadian North, in a statement
