ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — The federal government has awarded an $8.8-million contract to Moriyama & Teshima Architects of Toronto to design a new Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) facility to be built at 80 Kelsey Dr. in St. John’s, N.L.
The contract includes preparing plans, specifications and cost estimates as well as providing construction oversight services, stated a release.
The government recently acquired the land for the new building, which will accommodate the CRA’s National Verification and Collections Centre and Tax Services Office.
Under the government’s Greening Government Strategy, new federal buildings must target net-zero carbon.
The current National Verification and Collections Centre in St. John’s was built in 1980 and has reached the end of its life expectancy.
During tax-filing season, capacity at such a facility can reach a peak of 3,000 employees.
The project is scheduled to be completed in 2029.
