Clinical care back to normal levels after water main break: CHEO

OTTAWA — The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario says a code grey issued Tuesday due to a water main break near its facility has now ended.

The hospital says in a news release that an incident happened during construction close to the main doors of the building at 12:30 p.m.

The break led to water for clinical care, cooling, drinking water and restroom facilities being disrupted for much of the afternoon and evening.

Out of an abundance of caution, CHEO said it had cancelled elective surgeries and some clinic visits have been cancelled for the rest of the day.

Around 10:15 p.m. local time, the hospital said that clinical care had returned to normal levels and the code grey had been discontinued.

The issues came as eastern Ontario deals with a major heat wave.

Daytime temperatures in Ottawa reached 34 C Tuesday afternoon and are expected to hang in the low to mid 30s for the next few days.
