TORONTO — The 17-acre Humber River Health Finch campus in the Jane and Finch corridor will be reimagined to revitalize health care in one of Toronto’s most underserved communities thanks to a donation of $10 million from the Honey & Barry Sherman Legacy Foundation
This investment to the Humber River Health Foundation is crucial given the area’s pressing health care needs, indicates a release. The community is home to the highest percentage of lone-parent families, racialized and marginalized populations in Toronto. The surrounding neighbourhoods also have a disproportionate number of low-income seniors aged 80 and above who live alone, adds the release.
The reimagined facility will be designed around specific community needs and identify a range of options to address any misalignment between current and future service delivery and potential solutions.
The assessment will explore various areas of care including a fully accessible urgent care clinic; diagnostic imaging and lab services to enhance care and increase community access; and potentially, a new acute hospital on the site.
The $10 million donation is the Honey & Barry Sherman Legacy Foundation’s largest charitable gift since its inception in 2020.
