Metrolinx opens new Exhibition station pedestrian bridge

TORONTO — Metrolinx has announced it has opened a new pedestrian bridge across the rail corridor at Toronto’s Exhibition GO station for use during Ontario Line construction.

The bridge will provide additional access between Atlantic Avenue and Exhibition Place, stated a recent release. Metrolinx also recently opened a new station entrance on the north side of the tracks on Atlantic Avenue, south of Liberty Street.

The new entrance, which opened to the public on Sept. 6, connects to 40 metres of new passenger tunnels to be used by Lakeshore West GO Train customers.

Once fully built out, the expanded Exhibition Station will provide access to Ontario Line and GO train connections under one roof. A new overhead concourse will be the end point for the 15.6-kilometre Ontario Line.

It’s estimated that roughly 12,100 people will pass through Exhibition Station during rush hour, with 6,300 expected to transfer to and from other forms of transit like GO trains and TTC streetcars. This will ultimately help to reduce crowding at Union Station by 14 per cent.
