Strait of Canso Superport receives funding boost for big moves
STRAIT OF CANSO SUPERPORT CORPORATION — The Province of Nova Scotia is contributing to infrastructure upgrades at the Strait of Canso Superport.

MULGRAVE, N.S. — The Province of Nova Scotia has announced it is investing $750,000 for capital upgrades to the Mulgrave Marine Terminal, including the installation of a bridge.

Specifically, the funding will be used for the installation of a 44-metre steel bridge at the northern end of the Superport’s Mulgrave Marine Terminal, explains a release, which will provide direct access to Route 344. The bridge was purchased from Zutphen Construction for $400,000.

The infrastructure upgrades will also enable large turbines to move through the Strait of Canso Superport more safely and efficiently as wind energy is playing a key role in Nova Scotia’s 2030 Clean Power Plan, which aims to have 80 per cent renewable electricity by 2030 and be net-zero by 2050.

“The Strait of Canso is a strategic area for wind energy development in the province and the Superport has a key role to play,” said Greg Morrow, minister of agriculture and MLA for Guysborough-Tracadie, in a statement. “These upgrades will enable turbine components to be transported to potential project sites more efficiently.”
