The International Union of Operating Engineers is once again affiliated with North America’s Building Trades Unions.
WASHINGTON, D.C.
The International Union of Operating Engineers is once again affiliated with North America’s Building Trades Unions.
“Raising our collective voice and acting with common purpose through this affiliation will benefit not only IUOE members, but all union construction tradesmen and women throughout the U.S. and Canada,” said IUOE general president James Callahan in a statement.
The affiliation became effective Jan. 1.
The IUOE represents more than 400,000 heavy equipment operators, mechanics, surveyors, and stationary engineers across North America. The union left the building trades in 2006.
“With the Operating Engineers as a formal partner, we will better serve the needs of our clients, our customers, our contractors and, most importantly, the members we represent. We will build upon our combined legacy of creating opportunities through apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs that are so vital to strengthening and building the middle class across North America,” said Sean McGarvey, president of North America’s Building Trades Unions.
