SAULT STE. MARIE, ONT. — A partnership between Humber College and Sault College will deliver a new engineering degree in Sault Ste. Marie, making postsecondary education more accessible in the North and preparing students for in-demand engineering jobs.
Beginning in 2022, Humber College will deliver a Bachelor of Engineering — Mechatronics program at Sault College. The new program will help address the shortage of engineering graduates in Ontario and provide students in the North with more options to study closer to home, states a release.
The partnership is supported by the Ontario government.
Humber College’s Bachelor of Engineering program at Sault College offers students the opportunity to dive deeper into the research, technology and emerging needs in the field of Mechatronics, states the release, adding graduates of this program will be equipped to pursue in-demand careers as civil, mechanical, electrical/electronic and computer engineers.
“Students in Northern Ontario face unique challenges, including vast distances between communities, while facing specific labour market demands,” said Ross Romano, minister of colleges and universities, in a statement. “This is an incredible opportunity for students to pursue a high-demand career in engineering while living closer to home.”
