Skills Ontario celebrating International Day of the Girl

TORONTO — Skills Ontario is hosting events today (Oct. 11) to mark International Day of the Girl.

An in-person celebration, the For Girls, by Girls Conference, for girls in Grade 6 to 8 is taking place this morning at Science North in Greater Sudbury, Ont. The event will provide participants with the opportunity to hear from girls in senior elementary discussing their perspectives of how they perceive the skilled trades and technologies, what they want to be when they grow up and why, their favourite tool and what interests them.

Discussions will be led by women in the skilled trades.

Kendra Liinamaa, a millwright apprentice at Vale and a trades ambassador for KickAss Careers, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Danielle Robb, a millwright apprentice, will be the panel moderator.

The day also includes a virtual component for those who are not able to attend in person billed Sit Down with Plumber Paige hosted by Paige Knowles, a trades advocate, public speaker and a new business owner.

Stay tuned, the Daily Commercial News will be providing coverage on the day.
