OTTAWA
A construction worker sustained serious head injuries after a piece of wood fell on him while working on the Queensway Carleton Hospital Expansion Project earlier this month.
The project is located at the rear of 30045 Baseline Road in Ottawa.
“A worker was placing concrete on the stairs when lumber fell from the roof of a two-storey building onto the worker,” said Matt Blajer, Ministry of Labour spokesperson.
The worker lost consciousness and EMS took him to the hospital with severe head injuries.
The constructor is Vanbots Construction Corporation, a division of Carillion Corporation and the subcontractor is Bellai Brothers Construction.
The Ministry of Labour is investigating and has issued two stop work orders to Vanbots and orders to ensure the scaffolding and work platform are both secure and safe prior to use and one order to provide documents.
Bellai Brothers was ordered to provide documents.
