MISSISSAUGA

The Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (ISHA) recently wrapped up their stint at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) from Aug. 19-23.

Over 12,000 fair goers dropped by their booth, mainly to get a souvenir snapshot of themselves in front of a background of the Toronto skyline while protected by a guardrail.

The IHSA says the photo is supposed to remind people of the importance of workplace health and safety. They teamed up with representatives from the Ministry of Labour (MOL) to speak with people about the hazards of working in a place with heights and how to minimize the risks.

The IHSA also helped inform young workers about their work rights and responsibilities, and spoke to employers and homeowners.

The CNE promo came just before the MOL embarks on their two-month enforcement blitz during September and October on falls in the construction industry. Inspectors will visit construction sites all over Ontario to target fall prevention and protection training.
