McKay-Cocker has announced that the new Maple Leaf Foods Refrigerated Distribution Centre in Puslinch Township, near Guelph, is now complete and that it recorded zero lost time injuries during its construction.
The 282,000-square-foot refrigerated warehouse, licensed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency as a regulated warehousing and distribution facility, achieved LEED Silver. The facility includes a fully functioning laboratory, cooler, freezer, refrigerated dock area with 38 transport truck accessible dock doors, ambient storage area and office space.
The refrigeration system for the facility utilizes a state-of-the-art water filtration/RO system for condenser bleed water which minimizes water usage and bleed water. The bleed water from the system is treated and used as part of the grey water system for the toilets. This innovation helped reduce the total water consumption for the facility and also reduced the requirements for the septic system. The project was finished on time and on budget, reports McKay-Cocker.
