PEEL REGION, ONT.—A date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Christopher Crawford.
The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 30 at the Provincial Offenses Courthouse in Brampton, Ont.
Crawford, 33, died on Jan. 13, 2014, during the course of his employment at a construction site in Peel Region.
Media reports at the time stated he was working for Vixman Construction Ltd., a subcontractor helping build the Target store at the Sheridan Centre in Mississauga.
Crawford was working at the mall, which was located on the corner of Erin Mills and Parkway and Fowler Drive, when he fell to the ground after the roof he was working on collapsed.
He was trapped and crushed under the steel framework of the building after it gave way.
Crawford was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association union Local 562 in Kitchener, the reports note.
The inquest, which is expected to last five days and hear from eight witnesses, will examine the events surrounding Crawford’s death and is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
Dr. Monique Moreau will preside as inquest coroner and Mike Morris will be counsel to the coroner.
