MISSISSAUGA — Coco Paving has received an Ontario Electrical Safety Award recently for its dedication to safety near powerlines.
Two other awards were handed out at the Sept. 26 event — to Oshawa Power for worker safety, and Waterloo North Hydro for consumer and home safety.
Coco Paving was cited for its “dedication to proactively educating its employees on the dangers associated with working in close proximity to overhead powerlines.”
In early 2019, Coco Paving requested the ESA’s participation in its 2019 Spring Start Up Sessions to create awareness and prevention of workplace injuries due to powerline contact. Six sessions were held with 700 employees across eastern Ontario participating.
Oshawa Power was honoured for its Worker Safety Information Sessions. Oshawa Power provides continuous training to its employees through its Ergonomic Change Team and Wellness Committee that includes health and safety board postings, emails, Lunch and Learn lectures and healthy departmental competitions, the release said. Safety training is also extended to external workers through its Contractor Safety Day.
Waterloo North Hydro was recognized for its 2018 Electrical Safety Poster Contest. The contest asked area elementary school students in grades 1 to 8 to design a safety poster outlining the importance of using the Ontario One Call locate request before beginning an outdoor project.
