D’Orazio’s Stone wins safety award from TSSA

TORONTO — Ontario’s Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) has awarded a safety award to the health and safety manager of D’Orazio Infrastructure Group.

D’Orazio’s Andrew Stone received the TSSA Impact Safety Award.

“Andrew Stone is a dedicated safety advocate,” said John Marshall, TSSA’s director of fuels safety, in an Oct. 4 statement.

“His commitment to education and innovation is an excellent example of the type of leadership we are proud to highlight with our annual Impact Safety Award.”

The TSSA citation noted that early in his career, Stone was injured on the job while working as a carpenter. The incident sparked his next career, in workplace safety advocacy.

Stone is now responsible for 70 employees as health, safety and environmental manager at D’Orazio and he also serves as a board member of the Ontario Regional Common Ground Alliance

As a board member he played an important role in developing a provincial plan to improve safety education and training for excavators when working around buried infrastructure, the release said.

A second Impact Safety Award was presented to W.O. Stinson & Son Ltd., which is active in the residential and commercial fuel and lubricant distribution sector in eastern Ontario and western Quebec.

The firm launched a Quality Assurance Program to promote safety in its operations.
