Inquest scheduled for construction site death

TORONTO — A date has been set for the inquest into the death of Gilbert Eid, 44, who died on a construction site on Oct. 31, 2016.

Dr. Bonnie Burke, regional supervising coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, made the announcement Feb. 11. The inquest will take place on Monday, March 30 in Toronto.

An inquest, which is mandatory under the Coroners Act, will examine the circumstances surrounding Eid’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last five days and hear from about eight witnesses. It will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Coroners Courts, Courtroom B, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto. Dr. Mara Goldstein will preside as inquest coroner and Catherine Glaister will be counsel to the coroner.
